TOKYO, 15 November 2025 — The Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Tokyo participated for the first time in the ASEAN Community Tokyo (ACT) Family Gathering, following Timor-Leste’s official admission as a Full Member of ASEAN on 26 October 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The annual event was held at Kasai Rinkai Park, Tokyo, and serves as an important platform to strengthen friendship, enhance cooperation, and promote cultural exchange among ASEAN communities residing in Japan.
ACT 2025 and ASEAN Cooperation
The 2025 ACT Family Gathering was organized by the Embassy of Viet Nam, while the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam will host the event in 2026.
As ASEAN’s newest member, the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Tokyo expressed great pride in marking its presence at this important community event.
Showcasing Timorese Culinary Heritage
In addition to participating in various activities, the Embassy of Timor-Leste introduced traditional Timorese cuisine, including batar da’an, ikan saboko, koto da’an (feijoada), and aidila bafa, representing the country’s rich gastronomic identity.
Cultural Activities and Community Engagement
The event featured a range of cultural and recreational activities, including traditional games such as tug-of-war and ball games, alongside food exchanges among ASEAN member countries, in accordance with the program arranged by the organizing committee.
Commitment to ASEAN Community Integration
The Embassy’s participation reflects Timor-Leste’s continued commitment to ASEAN community integration and regional dynamism, particularly through the promotion of cultural diplomacy as a key pillar of engagement.
