Tokyo, 12 August 2026 — H.E. Maria Terezinha Viegas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Japan, accompanied by Counsellor Célio Moniz, received Professor Yamada at the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Japan.
Professor Yamada has been nominated to serve as Counsellor at the Embassy of Japan in Dili and is a member of Asosiasaun Lorosae-Nippon. He has longstanding ties with Timor-Leste, particularly in the areas of peacebuilding, state-building, international cooperation, and Japan–Timor-Leste relations.
As a distinguished Japanese scholar with extensive experience and research on Timor-Leste, Professor Yamada has worked closely with Timorese academic institutions and civil society organisations. His engagement has also contributed to strengthening exchanges and relations between the people of Timor-Leste and Japan.
The Embassy of Timor-Leste in Japan expresses its appreciation for Professor Yamada's contribution to strengthening understanding and relations between Timor-Leste and Japan, and extends its best wishes for his new assignment in Timor-Leste.
The Embassy also looks forward to the continued development of cooperation, particularly in strengthening academic and educational exchanges and people-to-people ties between Timor-Leste and Japan, including closer connections among students and young people of the two countries.
