Ambassador Viegas and Counselor Célio Meet UNPAZ Leadership to Advance Educational Cooperation
TOKYO, 10 October 2026 — Following the ASEAN Family Day event, Ambassador Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas and Counselor Célio received the Rector and representatives from various departments of the Universidade da Paz (UNPAZ) in Tokyo. The meeting followed up on the courtesy call held on 6 October and focused on strengthening cooperation between UNPAZ and Nagoya University to create opportunities for Timorese students to pursue higher education in Japan.
The discussions centred on developing clear academic pathways and expanding opportunities for students from Timor-Leste to pursue higher education and professional development programmes at leading institutions in Japan.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the proposed cooperation framework, with the aim of ensuring that future student exchanges contribute to capacity-building and the development of Timor-Leste’s human resources.
