Counsellor Celio da Silva Represents Timor-Leste at Malaysia’s 68th National Day Celebration in Tokyo

TOKYO, 31 October 2026 — Representing the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Japan, Counsellor Celio da Silva attended the diplomatic reception commemorating the 68th Anniversary of Malaysia’s Independence. The prestigious event was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel, Otemachi, Tokyo.

In his welcoming remarks, H.E. Dato’ Shahril Effendy Abd Ghany, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, expressed his sincere gratitude to the diplomatic corps and distinguished guests for their presence. The Ambassador underscored the robust and enduring partnership between Malaysia and Japan, which has flourished since 1957. He specifically highlighted successful cooperation in strategic sectors, including:

  • Trade and Investment

  • Infrastructure Development

  • Tourism and Education

Looking toward the future, Ambassador Shahril also extended a warm invitation to all guests to support the “Visit Malaysia 2026” campaign, showcasing the country’s commitment to global tourism and cultural exchange.

The celebration brought together a distinguished assembly, including H.E. Keiji Furuya, President of the Japan–Malaysia Parliamentary Friendship Association, and Mr. Miyamoto Shingo, Director-General of the Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The event was also attended by members of the diplomatic community, Japanese private sector leaders, and the Malaysian diaspora in Japan.

The presence of the Timor-Leste Embassy at this event reaffirms the strong fraternal ties and diplomatic solidarity between Timor-Leste and Malaysia within the regional framework.
