Tokyo, 18 October 2025. Mr. Célio Moniz, Counsellor at the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Japan, attended the opening ceremony of the Indonesia–Japan Friendship Festival 2025, held at Yoyogi Park, Tokyo.
Festival Promoting ASEAN Cultural Exchange
The annual festival was attended by representatives from ASEAN diplomatic missions, officials from Japanese local governments, delegates from the Jakarta Provincial Government, corporate sponsors, and cultural figures. The event also attracted a large number of members of the Indonesian community residing in Japan, reflecting the strong people-to-people ties between Indonesia and Japan.
Messages from the Indonesian Embassy
In her opening remarks, Ms. Renata Hutagalung, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Japan, expressed her appreciation to all participants, the organizing committee, and the Government of Japan for their continued support in fostering bilateral and cultural relations.
Addressing the Indonesian diaspora in Japan, which now exceeds 250,000 people, Ms. Hutagalung highlighted the importance of maintaining harmony and respect within the host country, serving as cultural ambassadors by promoting Indonesian values and heritage, and strengthening people-to-people relations between Indonesia and Japan.
ASEAN Solidarity and Cultural Diplomacy
The participation of the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Japan underscored the strong sense of regional solidarity among ASEAN member states and reaffirmed a shared commitment to promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding in Japan.
