TOKYO, 1 December 2025 – The Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Japan, H.E. Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, attended a luncheon hosted by Ambassador Yasuyuki Miyashita, Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The event provided a strategic platform to reaffirm and strengthen the diplomatic and bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and Japan.
During the meeting, both delegations engaged in substantive discussions on key regional issues, including Japan’s evolving policy approaches following recent statements by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Taiwan—an area of critical importance in the current China–Japan diplomatic landscape.
The luncheon also addressed updates on Japan’s entry regulations for foreign nationals. Ambassador Viegas explored opportunities to expand pathways for Timorese workers and students, focusing on enhanced access to professional education, vocational training, and employment in Japan.
The session concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation, advance regional stability, and maintain close partnership across political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people sectors.
