Tokyo, 3 December 2025 — Mr. Célio da Silva, Counsellor of the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Japan, participated in a Duck-Netting Party held at the Saitama Wild Duck Preserve, upon an official invitation organized by the Grand Master of Ceremonies of the Imperial Household Agency.
Duck netting is a traditional, non-competitive court sport unique to Japan and the Imperial Household. The activity is administered by the Board of Ceremonies of the Imperial Household Agency and represents an important element of Japan’s cultural heritage and ceremonial traditions.

The event was attended by Heads of Mission of the diplomatic corps accredited to Japan, following a gracious invitation from Her Highness Princess Tomohito of Mikasa. This year’s program was distinguished by the honour of Her Highness joining Counsellor Célio da Silva’s team, together with several distinguished ambassadors, including the Ambassador of the European Union, the Ambassador of Australia, and the Ambassador of Costa Rica, among other members of the diplomatic community.

The event took place in a cordial and respectful atmosphere, underscoring the value of cultural diplomacy in strengthening mutual understanding and friendly relations among nations. It concluded with a luncheon and a commemorative group photograph with Her Highness Princess Tomohito.
