TOKYO, 18 December 2025 — Her Excellency Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Japan, accompanied by Mr. Celio Moniz, Counsellor, received a courtesy call from His Excellency Mr. Yamamoto Yasushi, Ambassador-designate of Japan to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, at the Embassy in Tokyo.
This introductory meeting provided a valuable opportunity for both sides to exchange views on the robust bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and Japan. The discussions centered on cooperation in human resource development and education, as well as official invitations extended by NIKKEI and GENRON NPO to His Excellency President José Ramos-Horta.
The meeting also addressed Timor-Leste’s planned participation in the Green Expo 2026, highlighting strategic opportunities for enhanced engagement with Japanese partners.
Ambassador Viegas expressed her sincere appreciation for Japan’s enduring support and contributions to Timor-Leste’s national development. Both diplomats reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across a broad spectrum of mutually beneficial sectors. The meeting concluded in a warm and cordial atmosphere, followed by a commemorative group photograph.
