TOKYO, November 5, 2025 — The Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Japan, H.E. Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, accompanied by Counsellor Celio Moniz and Ms. Nakamura, paid a courtesy call on Hon. Gen Nakatani, Member of the House of Representatives and President of the Japan-Timor-Leste Parliamentary Friendship League, at the National Diet Complex in Tokyo.
Expressing Gratitude for Enduring Friendship
Ambassador Viegas was warmly received by Mr. Nakatani at his office. During the brief meeting, the Ambassador expressed her profound gratitude to Mr. Nakatani for his presence at the celebration held last week marking Timor-Leste’s official accession as the 11th member of ASEAN.
On behalf of the Government and people of Timor-Leste, the Ambassador also extended her sincere thanks to the former Defense Minister for his tireless efforts in strengthening bilateral military cooperation. Furthermore, she commended his initiative in creating employment opportunities for Timorese youth in his home prefecture of Kochi, Japan.
Commitment to Future Support
In response, Mr. Nakatani reaffirmed his personal commitment to Timor-Leste, assuring the Ambassador that he remains at the country’s disposal for any future assistance or collaboration.
The meeting concluded with a symbolic exchange of gifts, as Ambassador Viegas presented Mr. Nakatani with traditional Timorese Tais and Coffee, representing the warmth and deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.
