Tokyo, 14 October 2025. The Designated Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Japan, Ms. Maria Terezinha Viegas, together with Labour Attaché Mr. João Mendonça and Financial Administrative Officer Ms. Faviola Henriques, received a courtesy visit from representatives of the Association of Timorese Students in Japan (AETJ). The meeting marked the first official engagement since the commencement of the Ambassador’s diplomatic mission in Japan.
Welcome and Presentation of AETJ Activities
During the meeting, AETJ representatives conveyed their warm welcome and best wishes for success to the Designated Ambassador in carrying out her diplomatic duties in Japan. They also briefed the Embassy on the association’s planned activities, particularly those related to the commemoration of important historical dates of Timor-Leste scheduled for November and December.
Recognition of Youth Engagement and Historical Awareness
On the occasion, the Designated Ambassador expressed her appreciation for AETJ’s initiatives, especially their efforts to give significance to historical milestones that reflect the long struggle and sacrifices endured by the people of Timor-Leste in achieving national independence. She underscored the importance of engaging the younger generation in preserving historical memory and fostering national identity abroad.
