TOKYO, December 10, 2025 — Her Excellency Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Japan, accompanied by Counsellor Célio Moniz, attended the 8th Asia–Africa–Arab 55 (AAA-55) General Assembly held in Tokyo.
Strengthening Multilateral Business and Cooperation
The General Assembly reaffirmed AAA-55’s role as a vital platform for strengthening business ties and multilateral cooperation between Japan and the regions of Asia, Africa, and the Arab world. In his address, the President of AAA-55 highlighted the organization’s significant contributions to fostering practical cooperation, driving investment initiatives, and facilitating meaningful people-to-people exchanges.
Commitment to Trade and Sustainable Development
During the session, representatives from the Philippines and the Arab group reaffirmed their shared commitment to multilateral collaboration in trade, investment, and human resource development. A special message from the Prime Minister of Japan further emphasized the importance of sustainable development and the strengthening of regional economic partnerships.
Timor-Leste’s Diplomatic Engagement
The event, which brought together ambassadors, senior diplomats, and representatives from various member companies, underscored Timor-Leste’s active engagement in multilateral diplomacy. Ambassador Viegas’s participation reflects Timor-Leste’s ongoing dedication to regional cooperation and its commitment to exploring new avenues for economic and diplomatic growth within these key global regions.
