Timor-Leste Attends Welcome Dinner Reception Hosted by the Mayor and Governor of Hiroshima Ahead of the Peace Memorial Ceremony

Counselor Celio of the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Tokyo participated in the Welcome Dinner Reception hosted by the Mayor and Governor of Hiroshima for distinguished guests attending the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony.

The reception brought together representatives of foreign embassies accredited to Japan, Members of the House of Representatives, Members of the House of Councillors, senior Japanese government officials, members of the Hiroshima City Council, the Mayor of Nagasaki, and representatives of international organizations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), from Japan and abroad.

The gathering provided a valuable occasion for dialogue and exchange among the many delegations present ahead of the following day's official commemorations.

The programme commenced with welcoming remarks by Mrs. Ayano Kunimitsu, Senior State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who spoke of the significance of the occasion and the enduring importance of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony to the international community.

This was followed by a testimony from an 89-year-old hibakusha, a survivor of the atomic bombing, whose moving personal account of that day left a profound impression on all present. Her words reaffirmed the shared commitment of the international community to peace, to nuclear disarmament, and to ensuring that such a tragedy is never repeated.
