
Embassy of Timor-Leste in Japan
Nagasaki, Japan — 8 August 2026 — Counselor Celio Moniz, representing the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Japan, attended a Welcome Dinner hosted by the Mayor of Nagasaki, Mr. Shiro Suzuki, on 8 August 2026.
The dinner brought together ambassadors and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions accredited to Japan, the Mayor of Hiroshima, members of the Japanese Diet, and other distinguished guests.
In his opening remarks, Mayor Shiro Suzuki expressed his appreciation for the presence of members of the diplomatic community and reflected on the tragic legacy of the atomic bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
Mayor Suzuki emphasized the importance of preserving the memories of the victims and ensuring that the lessons of these tragedies continue to be remembered. He called on the international community to remain firmly committed to peace and to work together to prevent such tragedies from ever happening again.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for participating diplomatic representatives to reaffirm their shared commitment to peace, reconciliation, and the pursuit of a world free from nuclear weapons.
