TOKYO, 16 February 2026 – The Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (RDTL) in Tokyo is pleased to invite the public, academic community, and stakeholders to a milestone event organized by the Association of East Timorese in Japan (AETJ).
Scheduled for tonight, the webinar titled “Introducing YamaTL: A New Innovative Startup Founded by Timorese Researchers” will officially introduce a promising technology venture born from the academic excellence of Timorese scholars in Japan.
Bridging Research and Real-World Impact
YamaTL is a startup founded by three distinguished Timorese Ph.D. candidates at Yamaguchi University: Pedro Junior Fernandes, Elfrido Elias Tita, and Oktoviano Viegas Tilman. As they approach the completion of their doctoral studies in Civil and Environmental Systems Engineering, they are transitioning their high-level research into a practical enterprise aimed at addressing Timor-Leste’s national challenges.
The session will highlight how YamaTL intends to revolutionize key sectors through:
-
GIS and Remote Sensing: Enhancing disaster response and precision agriculture.
-
Digital Construction (BIM): Modernizing infrastructure through Building Information Modeling.
-
Climate Resilience: Implementing data-driven strategies for disaster risk reduction.
A Message of Support
The Embassy views this initiative as a vital step in human capital development, showcasing how our students abroad are actively seeking ways to contribute to the nation’s technological landscape. We encourage all interested parties to attend and engage with these young innovators.
