Timor-Leste Participates in 81st Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Memorial Ceremony

Counselor Célio Moniz represented the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Japan at the 81st Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Memorial Ceremony, held at Nagasaki Peace Park to commemorate those who lost their lives in the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on 9 August 1945.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Foreign Minister Motegi, senior Japanese government officials, including members of the Cabinet and the Diet, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions, hibakusha and their families, civil servants, students, and members of the community.

In his remarks, Nagasaki Mayor Shiro Suzuki called for the abolition of nuclear weapons and emphasized the importance of strengthened international dialogue and cooperation. He also highlighted the continued transmission of the testimonies and experiences of the hibakusha to future generations.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reaffirmed Japan's commitment to peace, nuclear disarmament, and the realization of a world without nuclear weapons.
