Embassy Receives CARE International Japan

TOKYO, November 14 — Her Excellency Ambassador Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, accompanied by Counsellor Celio Moniz, received Ms. Miyoko Takaki and Mr. Wataru Aoi from CARE International Japan at the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Tokyo.

A Legacy of Development in Timor-Leste

During the meeting, Ms. Takaki provided a comprehensive overview of CARE International’s long-standing history in Japan and its impactful development programs in Timor-Leste. Key initiatives highlighted include:

  • Lafaek and Haforsa Programs: Supporting education and community empowerment.

  • Infrastructure & Agriculture: Road construction to improve market access for farmers and the installation of water tanks.

  • Women’s Empowerment: Promoting active participation of women in agricultural development.

80th Anniversary and the “Walking in Her Shoes” Campaign

As CARE International celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, Ms. Takaki invited Ambassador Viegas to provide a special message for the “Walking in Her Shoes” campaign. This initiative aims to raise global awareness regarding the critical challenges of water access faced by communities in Atsabe.
