Tokyo, 15 October 2025. H.E. Ambassador Viegas paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and presented copies of her Letters of Credence. The Ambassador was warmly received by H.E. Ambassador Miyashita Tadayuki, Chief of Protocol and Director of Diplomatic Missions, together with Mr. Miyagawa Kiyomi, Director of the Second Southeast Asia Division, and Mr. Yokoyama Daiki, of the Second Southeast Asia Division.

During the meeting, Ambassador Miyashita Tadayuki welcomed Ambassador Viegas to Japan and expressed his hope that her presence would further strengthen the cooperative relationship between Japan and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
The Chief of Protocol also informed that the formal ceremony for the presentation of the Letters of Credence to His Majesty the Emperor of Japan is expected to take place within approximately two to three months.
Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Relations
In response, Ambassador Viegas expressed her sincere appreciation for the warm reception and conveyed her commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
