Timor-Leste Officially Becomes the 11th Full Member of ASEAN

The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste has marked a historic milestone by officially joining as the 11th full member of ASEAN. This accession was formalized through the signing of the official declaration by ASEAN Leaders and the ceremonial raising of the national flag alongside other member states.

Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão described this moment as a new chapter for national sovereignty and economic integration. Full membership status will strengthen Timor-Leste’s diplomatic position in the region and expand strategic cooperation opportunities with global partners, particularly Japan.
