OKYO, 5 June 2026 — H.E. Ambassador Maria Terezinha Viegas, accompanied by Counselor Celio Moniz, attended a working lunch hosted by Mr. Shingo Miyamoto, Assistant Minister and Director-General of the Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Izuchi Kazushi, Director of the Second Southeast Asia Division, and Mr. Kaneko.
During the lunch, both sides discussed a range of important issues, including Timor-Leste’s preparations to assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2029, the Embassy of Timor-Leste’s engagement with the ASEAN–Japan Centre in Tokyo, and Japan’s continued commitment to supporting Timor-Leste’s preparations and capacity-building efforts ahead of its ASEAN Chairmanship.
The working lunch provided a valuable opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between Timor-Leste and Japan on regional and multilateral issues.
