The program commenced with a luncheon hosted by Mr. Naofumi Koga, President of Asia-Africa-Arab 55 (AAA-55), at the Fujikyu Resort & Spa. The gathering offered an excellent opportunity for participants to strengthen relationships and exchange views on matters of mutual interest within the international community.
Visit to JR Central Facilities and Maglev Technology
Following the luncheon, participants visited the facilities of the Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) to gain firsthand insights into Superconducting Magnetic Levitation (SCMaglev) technology, one of the most advanced high-speed rail transportation systems in the world.
During the presentations delivered by Mr. Tomoki Seki, General Manager of the Maglev Systems Development Division at JR Central, and Mr. Keiichi Kagayama, Executive Director of JR Central, participants received a comprehensive overview of the Chuo Shinkansen project—a next-generation railway line set to connect Tokyo (Shinagawa), Nagoya, and Osaka utilizing magnetic levitation technology.
The Chuo Shinkansen is designed to operate at speeds of up to 500 kilometers per hour, significantly enhancing transport efficiency and connectivity between Japan’s major urban hubs. The presenters also shared updates regarding the project’s progress, including construction challenges that have led to adjustments in the timeline for commercial operations, currently anticipated to begin in the mid-2030s.
The visit continued with a tour of the Maglev test track facilities, offering participants a closer look at the future of transit technology being engineered in Japan. The program concluded with a group photo session, symbolizing friendship and ongoing cooperation between the international diplomatic community and Japanese institutions.
Counsellor Célio Moniz’s participation in the program reflects Timor-Leste’s commitment to strengthening ties with Japan and expanding its knowledge of technological innovations and best practices that can contribute to the future development of the nation.
