TOKYO, January 15, 2026 — The Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Ms. Sanae Takaichi, hosted a high-level meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office with the Group of Women Ambassadors in Japan. The delegation comprised 24 distinguished female ambassadors, ambassadors-designate, and chargées d’affaires ad interim accredited to Japan.
Advancing Inclusive Leadership
Prime Minister Takaichi commended the Group’s dedicated efforts in promoting women’s participation, leadership, and diversity within the diplomatic corps. She reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to inclusive leadership and emphasized the necessity of dismantling gender-based stereotypes within the decision-making process.
In response, representatives of the Group congratulated Prime Minister Takaichi on her historic assumption of office. They expressed high expectations for her leadership and underscored the vital importance of sustained cooperation with Japan across the political, economic, and social sectors.
Timor-Leste’s Active Diplomatic Engagement
The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste was represented by H.E. Mrs. Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Japan. Her participation underscores Timor-Leste’s active engagement in multilateral diplomacy and its steadfast support for inclusive international cooperation and gender equality on the global stage.
Prime Minister Takaichi concluded the meeting by reiterating Japan’s readiness to collaborate closely with the international diplomatic community to address regional and global challenges through constructive dialogue. The meeting was held in a cordial and productive atmosphere.
