TOKYO, 13 November — Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Japan, H.E. Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, received a courtesy visit from Mr. Kunitoshi Houjyou, Deputy Director-General, accompanied by a delegation from the Department of Commerce, Industry, and Labour of the Kochi Prefectural Government, at the Embassy in Tokyo.
Strengthening Bilateral Engagement
During the meeting, Mr. Houjyou expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to meet with the Ambassador and extended his congratulations on Timor-Leste’s accession as the 11th Full Member of ASEAN. He also conveyed his gratitude for the invitation to attend the commemorative ceremony marking Timor-Leste’s ASEAN admission, held in Tokyo.
Mr. Houjyou further informed the Ambassador of his forthcoming official visit to Kochi Prefecture and shared updates regarding the situation of Timorese workers residing in Kochi, based on information provided by the recruitment agent, Ms. Nishimori.
Enhancing Cooperation Through the TIT Programme
In her response, Ambassador Viegas expressed sincere appreciation for Mr. Houjyou’s presence in Tokyo on the occasion of the ASEAN celebration. She underscored the importance of strengthening ongoing cooperation through the Technical Intern Training (TIT) Programme, particularly in expanding employment and skills development opportunities for Timorese youth in Japan.
The Ambassador also conveyed her gratitude to Mr. Gen Nakatani for his continued support in fostering cooperation between Timor-Leste and Kochi Prefecture.
Coordination with SEFOPE
The meeting concluded with Ambassador Viegas reaffirming that all relevant information concerning Timorese workers would be officially communicated to SEFOPE, ensuring proper institutional coordination and effective follow-up.
