TOKYO, December 16, 2025 — Her Excellency Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Japan, accompanied by Counsellor Célio Moniz, received Mr. Yasushi Kudo, President of GENRON NPO, and Ms. Nishimori, Director of International Programs, at the Embassy in Tokyo.

Advancing Public Discourse and Democracy
The meeting served as a follow-up regarding the invitation extended to the President of the Republic, H.E. José Ramos-Horta, for his anticipated visit to Japan. During the discussion, the GENRON NPO representatives provided an overview of their organization’s mission. Established in 2001, GENRON NPO is a renowned independent think tank dedicated to strengthening democracy through high-level public discourse and strategic agenda-setting.
The Tokyo Conference 2026
Ms. Nishimori confirmed that the upcoming Tokyo Conference is scheduled for March 10–12, 2026. The organization expressed its strong desire for President Ramos-Horta to participate as a keynote speaker at the main session on March 11. The prestigious conference is expected to convene several prominent world leaders and an audience of approximately 700 to 800 participants.
Awaiting Official Confirmation
Ambassador Viegas expressed her appreciation to GENRON NPO for their consistent coordination and efforts. She noted that the Embassy is currently awaiting an official response from the Office of the President of Timor-Leste and assured the representatives that any feedback would be communicated promptly once received.
The meeting concluded in a cordial atmosphere, followed by a group photograph and a coffee gathering hosted by the Ambassador.
