HOKOTA, 14 May 2026 – In an effort to expand bilateral relations, Her Excellency the Ambassador Viegas, accompanied by the delegation, conducted an official visit to Hokota City. During the visit, the Ambassador met with His Excellency Mr. Ikawa, the Mayor of Hokota City.

Ambassador Viegas also held meetings with the Mayor’s wife and representatives from the Worker Recruitment Agency of the Japanese Language Center in Hokota City.
Agriculture as a Cultural Bridge
Recognizing that agriculture is fundamental to the culture of Timor-Leste, engaging with workers and representatives provided the delegation with valuable insights into local agricultural techniques and methods. These observations are expected to foster a deeper understanding of the sector.
Expanding Connections Beyond Tokyo
This visit marks a significant step in building stronger connections with cities outside of Tokyo. The engagement with Hokota City aims to establish a broader network of cooperation between Timor-Leste and various regions across Japan
