TOKYO, 11 May 2026 – Mr. João Mendonça, Labor Attaché, represented the Embassy of Timor-Leste at the celebration of the Portuguese Language and Lusophone Culture Day, held at the Official Residence of the Portuguese Ambassador in Tokyo.

This year’s celebration held special significance as it coincided with the 30th Anniversary of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). The event brought together representatives from different nations united by a common language to connect, exchange ideas, and discuss topics of mutual interest.
Despite being geographically dispersed around the world, the CPLP member states remain strongly connected through the Portuguese language. The event highlighted the importance of this linguistic connection in fostering diplomatic relations and promoting collective development.

The Embassy of Timor-Leste remains committed to promoting Lusophone culture and strengthening the ties that unite the CPLP community, even here in Japan.
