TOKYO, 11 May 2026 – Mr. João Mendonça, the Financial Attaché, represented the Embassy of Timor-Leste today at the celebration of the Portuguese Language and Lusophone Culture Day, held at the Official Residence of the Portuguese Ambassador in Tokyo.

This year’s celebration held special significance as it coincided with the 30th Anniversary of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). The event brought together representatives from diverse nations united by a common language to connect, exchange strategic ideas, and discuss various topics of mutual interest.
Despite being geographically dispersed across the globe, the CPLP member states remain deeply connected through the Portuguese language. The event highlighted the importance of this linguistic bond in fostering diplomatic relations and driving collective development.

The Embassy of Timor-Leste remains committed to promoting Lusophone culture and strengthening the ties that bind the CPLP community, even here in Japan.
