TOKYO, February 19, 2026 – The Minister of Transport and Communications of Timor-Leste, Eng. Miguel Marques Manetelu, paid a courtesy call to the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Tokyo, Japan.

The visit was part of a strategic mission by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTK) delegation to Japan for the contract signing ceremony with Toa Corporation. This collaboration focuses on the rehabilitation and construction of the new passenger terminal at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Comoro, Dili.
Diplomatic Coordination and Support
Minister Manetelu and his delegation were received by the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Japan, H.E. Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, accompanied by Counselor Celio Moniz and Financial Technical Staff Faviola Henriques da Cruz.
During the meeting, Minister Manetelu expressed deep appreciation for the Embassy’s protocolary support. He also encouraged Timor-Leste’s diplomats in Tokyo to continue strengthening the partnership with the Government of Japan to support national infrastructure development.
A Solid Partnership
Ambassador Maria Viegas welcomed the progress of the airport project and reported that the cooperation between the Embassy and the Government of Japan remains robust across various sectors.
