Gifu, Japan — On 20 May 2026, H.E. Ambassador Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, together with officials of the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Japan and Timorese students at Gifu University, commemorated the 24th Anniversary of the Restoration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
The commemoration honored the resilience, unity, and sovereignty of the Timorese people and reflected the strong spirit of the Timorese community in Japan.
The programme included a solemn Holy Mass at Gifu Catholic Church, educational webinars at Gifu University, and traditional cultural dance performances showcasing Timorese cultural heritage. The event also featured an official cake-cutting ceremony attended by H.E. Ambassador Maria Terezinha da Silva Viegas, representatives of AEJT, and professors from Gifu University.
