GIFU, 19 May 2026 — H.E. Maria Terezinha Viegas, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Japan, together with her delegation, visited Gifu University to commemorate the Independence of Timor-Leste alongside Timorese students currently studying and conducting research at the university.
Upon arrival in Gifu, Ambassador Viegas and her delegation received a warm welcome at the station from members of the Asosiasaun Estudante Timoroan iha Japaun (Association of Timorese Students in Japan), who greeted the delegation with flowers and heartfelt hospitality.
The visit reflected the Embassy’s continued commitment to maintaining close engagement with Timorese students in Japan while strengthening the spirit of unity and national identity among the Timorese community abroad.
The occasion also underscored the important contribution of Timorese students and young researchers in advancing human resource development and supporting the future progress of Timor-Leste through education, research, and international academic exchange.
